La Plagne invests in major lift upgrades for this winter

Why not try out one of the biggest single resorts in the world?  The La Plagne lift system had a reputation in the past for being slow and old!  However, in recent years the development company who manage the resort have made some massive investments. Now the resort boasts an amazing network of lifts which link together all of it’s 10 villages in an efficient way.  You can get from one side of the resort to the other in record time and the queue bottlenecks of the past are no longer a sight to see.
Every year the Paradiski area gets better and better and the links to the lower villages are improved.  You can now stay in the lower villages for the better accommodation, cheaper prices and pretty environment with much improved links to the top!

La Plagne Lift System and Montalbert Improvements

La Plagne Montalbert has a new gondola lift which opened the winter before last but a link was missing in the middle to speed you up to the top!  This was a major faux-pas by the development company!  The Coqs lift was there in the past but they had chosen to remove it for reasons we will never understand.  Well – no more!  The high speed 4-man chair lift L’Envers finally opened in July after delays and problems last winter.  This new lift will make a massive difference for the coming winter for everybody staying in the village.  The Montalbert gondola will whisk you to the top of the Montalbert slopes.  You now jump on the new Envers high-speed chair lift to take you up above La Plagne Centre.  No more skiing down the little path to La Roche and hiking all the way up again.

Other improvements to the La Plagne lift system

La Plagne Lift SystemThe other major project in La Plagne over this summer is at the top of the Roche de Mio. The development company have installed a new 6-person high speed chair lift to replace the old Crozats lift.  We think the red Crozats piste down from the Roche de Mio is a fantastic run – one of our favourites!  However, the rickety old two person chair lift at the bottom made getting back up pretty painful.  From this winter, you’ll be able to ski the Crozats piste over and over again!
La Plagne Lift SystemBest of all, the resort company are installing a fancy enclosed carpet transport system. The company FunBelt have designed the system to link the Barrieres piste to the top of the Arpette.  The new name for this system will be “Tapis de l’Ange”.  The carpet will take out the pain of one of the flat links of the resort!  The new carpet will open for the coming winter season.  The pictures show a similar system already installed at nearby Val d’Isere.

Rumours for the future?

We’ve also heard rumours that a new gondola is being planned which will link the train station of Aime-la-Plagne to La Roche, where the Bobsleigh track is located in the centre of La Plagne.  It’s currently in the planning stages, but if confirmed this would cost around 25 million euros.  The gondola would create a very easy way for skiers taking the train to reach the main resort of La Plagne.  We hear it could even be ready for the 2018-19 winter season but the development company don’t have a great track record for delivering projects on time so we’re not holding our breath on that one!!.
According to the French newspaper Le Dauphine, this Gondola would allow those coming from Paris to be on the slopes in just 4 hours 15 minutes!  Ski Amis can book your train tickets and transfers direct from the station to your chalet – see our website for more information on the travel services we provide
With all these upgrades to the La Plagne lift system, we are loving the resort more and more – see our main website for more information on all our La Plagne Ski Holidays
